WHAT IS...?

ALABASTRITE is a stone base polyresin which can be painted. These items should not be washed, just dusted.

BONE CHINA is white clay with bone ash. It is fired at 1800 degrees and glazed. It is lighter, stronger and more expensive than porcelain.

PORCELAIN is fine ground white clay fired at 1200 degrees and glazed.

JADE PORCELAIN is made of finer clay. It is usually not glazed to preserve the translucency.

STONEWARE is white clay with fine ground stone. It is safe to use in microwave or conventional ovens,

PATCHWORK is fabric or paper prints which are applied to porcelain, dolomite or polyresin. 12 layers of lacquer are addded and it is polished to high gloss.

CUBIC ZIRCON is a very successful simulated diamond. Sometimes a jewelers loop is needed to tell the difference.

HONG TZE is a deep red, highly polished alabastrite polyresin made to emulate a special stone found in China.

FROSTED ACRYLIC is frosted with the same process used on glass but are much lighter.

GYPSUM is a white mineral which is usually used to make plaster of paris.

DOLOMITE is magnesia rich sedimentary rock that resembles limestone. It can be gray, pink or white.

Some of our items are labeled SIMULATED or FAUX. This means that they are very good quality copies but they are not real. This is done to keep the price affordable.
